This activity provides an overview of vaccine anxiety in children and tips for how to support them in a clinic setting. There is a special focus on children who have also experienced trauma and/or parental substance misuse. This information is presented by Melony Williams, LCMHC, from TLC Family Resource Center in Claremont, NH and Torie Miele, MS CCLS, Child Life Specialist at the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock in Lebanon, NH.

At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants, with knowledge of the effect that previous trauma (such as witnessing parental substance misuse) may impact a child’s presentation in a clinical setting, will be able to describe at least two strategies to reduce anxiety for children in preparation for receiving injections.
